Empieza la construcción del primer replicado a escala comercial

The firm Naturalea is building a leachate treatment plant in a nursery in the Maresme region (Barcelona, Spain).

On March 13 the works to install the first market-scale prototype of the Cleanleach project in the Sala Graupera nursery, in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (Barcelona) began. Currently, the nursery is engaged in the production of shrubs and ornamental plants based on sustainable gardening.

Naturalea, a bioengineering firm has provided the technical solution developed by IRTA. In a first phase and following the suggested scheme, a slow flow horizontal sand filter was created, allowing water collection, filtering, and recovery with minimal maintenance and low costs. In a second phase of the project, scheduled for early April, the artificial wetland will be created at the end of the depuration process, reducing the presence of nitrates and phosphorus in the water.

This first unit will provide a tool to analyze the life cycle of a leachate treatment system and assess the environmental impact of Cleanleach. A duplicate of the system will be assembled in the United Kingdom.
